Employment – Another new job!

So, this is week four¬†of yet another new job – and I’m loving this one, too.

As it turned out, about 4-5 weeks ago a former co-worker of mine made me aware of a job position, and after hearing and reading about the employee benefits, and potential salary range, I took the plunge and applied.

Low and behold, I got a call in the middle of May, and by then end of May 2015 I was hired and working for the new employer.

I have to say, in some ways this job is easier due to the corporate compartmentalization, and all the pre-built, organized way of doing business. I have virtually no engineering to accomplish, I can shine at what I do best, which is a troubleshooter of computer and networked peripherals.

Add to that the better offering of benefits in health, life and retirement, and I am a much happier camper. So, I can say, I liked the last job very much, and I liked all the people I worked with, but I like this current job better; while I miss the previous co-workers, my current bunch are great, just as relaxed and mellow, and I am in my element.

Thank you to my fellow co-worker for getting my attention and pushing me to apply! You know how you are ūüôā

Technology – UBDC v5.32

Today at work I am having to clone a partially defective Windows 7 hard drive to another in the hopes of getting the system back up and running.

So, in the past I have used Ultimate Bood CD for Windows but it has not been updated for Windows 7 or Windows 8, so I decided to give the OSS version of UBCD a shot.

I just downloaded the CD ISO file, burnt it to CD, and it appears to be working and able to access windows partitions and clone drives.

I will return after I have used the disk for a bit and update as to what I think about this latest edition.

UPDATE 2015.01.03

This version of UBCD worked great, I was able to clone the drive just fine, but in the end the damaged drive was in far worse shape than I thought, so the integrity of the damaged partition was such that the clone was unreadable.

Needless to say, I am impressed with this version, and linked to the website in my side column.

I will make followup posts as I gain more experience with this version, and I think I will once again keep up with this invaluable tool.

Are you feeling lucky, Moonchild? Since you’ve suffered more than your fair share of difficulties lately, you may be feeling more unlucky than lucky, but events of the next few hours or days should change all that. The universe is working in your favor, and you must also have a guardian angel or two summoning up bright blessings for you, because your world is about to get so much better! Think in terms of greater prosperity, creative fulfillment, and even a bit of fame, perhaps. It may seem too good to be true – but it’s true!

Well, this plays on my previous horoscope. I really would like to get into 3D printing so I can make things for around the house, replace broken parts all over the house and maybe on my old 1988 Jeep, but most of all, making things for my garden experiments.

I have some ideas how I could improve the functioning of my vegetable garden to increase the productivity of the plants, giving me better harvests and more healthy, more naturally grown food to nourish my body.

And I suppose, if those gadgets could be mass produced, maybe I could make a living from the income?

CANCER Jan, 10, 2013

You are teetering on the edge of a new and exciting idea. You are hesitant to take the plunge and to make an attempt at turning the idea into a real opportunity. You fear you could make a mistake, or maybe you’re just afraid that no one will take you seriously or will think you’re thinking is faulty or even flaky. Then again, Moonchild, if you’re really onto something – and it’s likely that you are – this idea could transform some area of your life in a wonderful way. Think of terms of the possibilities this idea could ultimately bring – they include prosperity and fulfillment through a creative pursuit. It’s certainly worth looking into.

Wow, okay, in previous horoscopes I was told some “wonderful, happy future” is imminent, and now today’s horoscope. Too wild.

Let’s look at the above though; the statement that I’m really into something… well, I really am into gardening, of the food variety kind. I love to nurture food plants in my backyard garden. I would love to have more time to dedicate to it, so I could grow more things, and hence eat more from my garden.

Then the second thing that struck me is the “creative pursuit” statement. For the last 15 years or so, I have worked in the computer support and centralized IT world, and as part of my knowledge I have¬†learned¬†about 3D printing using machines like MakerBot and RepRap. I have been imagining printing 3D contraption or inventions that will help me further my gardening efforts.

I am not ready to reveal my ideas for the 3D printed parts, yet, but maybe this is my creative part I need to discover?

iPAD today was envisioned by dataPADD of Star Trek TNG

I had an epiphany the other day.

If you look at todays modern Apple iPAD or any similarly shaped and sized devices, and then watch some episides of Star Trek The Next Generation (ST:TNG) then you can see the similarities of the Personal Access Display Device (PADD) that some characters like Geordi LaForge used.

Again, just like the the early flip phone cell phones were inspired by the original series‘¬†communicators, we have another technology inspired by Science Fiction.

So, this begs to question, what else that was shown on ST:TNG or any of the later TV series and theater movies will come true?

Microsoft 6419A Class

Wow, this Microsoft 6419A class has a lot of good information in it, but I have to say, the class is only as good as your instructor.

My instructor, Terry Smith, here at New Horizons in Irving (Dallas), Texas,  is outstanding. He really knows his class material and is able to fine tune it to the students.

If you are working in the Server or Network Administration field and only have experience up to Server 2003 environments, and you are either planning to implement, or have implemented Server 2008, I would highly recommend taking this class, and not to downplay the abilities of any other instructor, but if you are lucky to get Terry Smith, you will learn a lot.

Microsoft has come a long way when it comes to servers and infrastructure, and just like Windows XP and Windows 7, with Server 2008 Microsoft has finally reached a major milestone of functionality.

Dell M6500 BSODs and lock-ups

My employer bought me a Dell Precision M6500 laptop so I can run VMware virtualization on the road, but the darn thing has be unreliable as heck, randomly locking up solid or BSOD‘ing.

I finally got tired of it and Googled the issue, and guess what I found?

Apparently this is a known condition and there is no fix for it right now!!!

I sure hope they find a solution because I can’t effectively use this thing if it locks up or BSODs all the time…!
