Ramblings for 2013.11.24

Well, this early afternoon I was called upon to take my mother-in-law to the ER with possible pneumonia.

So I am waiting for her to be admitted and decided to install the WordPress app for Android on my GNote2 so I can do some WordPressing while having idle time to occupy my attention.

I had installed the iOS version on my old iPhone 3GS and it worked but I didn’t much care to use it for blogging. However the current Android version is quite functional so far.

I feel like I can blog from anywhere on the GNote2 since the screen is big enough so I can actually see what I am doing. And being signed in to the hospital wifi network I’m not using much battery life either.

So, with that in mind, I will post this and go check on my mother-in-law.

Crosspressed – The second thing to consider in self-employment

Never, ever, think outside the box

Here’s a self-employment reality I’ve never really seen addressed that will go far in preparing you to really make a legitimate go at it.

As with most things we contemplate pursuing, we start of with a desire. In the case of free agency we want freedom in our lives and joy and wealth in our work…

My thoughts:

The author of the referenced article makes some good points to consider when deciding to become self-employed. These are points I also need to consider if I would want to make a go of it. This is why I am currently job hunting, I don’t think I am 100% ready to quit corporate employment cold turkey – not yet!

I hate it when the boots leak BUT it is becoming hard to find a decent natural(ish) waterproofer. I’ve always used DUBBIN.

Yes you can buy all sorts of high-tech sprays…

Basically our future looks bleak though not of our making. We had taken government advice on planning for our “retirement” years ago only for them to move the goal posts regarding state pension age. Uncontrolled cheap immigrant labor has taken the majority of jobs plus we now have our age going against us regarding looking for work. Whilst we are JUST holding our heads above water, our legs are going to be kicked out from under us by economics and government policies. To do nothing is not an option as we will eventually drown having lost everything.

My thoughts:

As we can see from the referenced work, the average Joe in the UK is in the same boat as the average Joe in the USA… even though the revolutionaries fought so hard to separate the future USA from the British rule, we are still economically linked, and because of this economic relationship, we are on the same boat headed for the iceberg… it is just a matter of when, not if…

Oh boy, so much for posting something every day.

Maybe I won’t make as good a blogger than I thought. Good news is, my job hunt resulted in setting up an interview with an IT staffing company that got hired to find an Server Administrator/Engineer. Scheduled it for Monday, their first open time slot.

Interestingly, this job was only listed on Craigslist. This is my first job interview from such a source. We shall see how it works out.

As for the blog, I will still try to post something every day. I have some back posts I’m working on, so those day gaps will disappear over the next few days.

Emil Racoviță’s 145th Birthday

Emil Racoviță (Romanian pronunciation: [eˈmil ˈrakovit͡sə]; also spelled Racovitza; 15 November 1868 – 17 November 1947) was a Romanian biologist, zoologist, speleologist, explorer of Antarctica and the first biologist in the world to study the arctic life.

Together with Grigore Antipa, he was one of the most noted promoters of natural sciences in Romania. Racoviță was the first Romanian to have gone on a scientific research expedition to the Antarctic, more than 100 years ago, as well as an influential professor, scholar and researcher. (WikiPedia)

Shichi-go-san 2000

Shichi-Go-San (七五三?, lit. “Seven-Five-Three”) is a traditional rite of passage and festival day in Japan for three- and seven-year-old girls and three- and five-year-old boys, held annually on November 15 to celebrate the growth and well-being of young children. As it is not a national holiday, it is generally observed on the nearest weekend. (WikiPedia)

1999-1998 – none

Later I will research some historical facts later to fill in the missing years.

CANCER Nov 15 2013

Limitations can be inspiring. At first, when there are restrictions and limitations on what we can do, it may seem oppressive. But in people like you, Moonchild, that barrier is often just what you need to break free. You are inspired by limits. A limit motivates you to tap into your deep well of creativity and move beyond the boundaries. You may now be facing a limit of some kind, but it won’t stop you. Once you get past the initial panic of dealing with it, your wild imagination will get to work. Reach for the stars.

Well, no kidding, when you are told not to come to work, but that you are not laid off either, that is kind of a limitation, isn’t it?

And yes, there is a panic stage I went through already – still am going through a little at this time.

And yes, my imagination has been running wild – what can I do to make a living while I am job hunting?

The limits and road blocks universe is throwing in my way are in fact inspiring me to look at many options for making a living, including this blog. Maybe I will never have the fortune to earn a living from this blog, but maybe a prospective employer might find my writing intriguing or inspiring?

We shall see what universe throws my way next – more obstacles or some opportunities, maybe?

November 15, 2013 – Daily ChineseScopes for Sheep

Your relations with your mate won’t be devoid of turmoil; the discussions will be stormy, and neither you nor they will want to lose the privilege of uttering the last word; be the more intelligent of the two by speaking less and by listening more. This lunar climate may bring about money concerns or problems in your business. There’ll also be tensions in your professional relationships. The planets will give you a homebound mood and make you love domestic joys; it will be quite difficult to drag you out of your cozy cocoon and your slippers!

Well, the wife and I have not really had any turmoil or problems, other than we’ve been sick with some sort of flue or something, but I have been doing more listening ans speaking, and due to us not feeling well, I have been in fact home bound and enjoying not stressing at work, although I have to say that I don’t feel stressed at work much, I have my days where I am glad to be at work and not at home. Working with like minded folks has its benefits intellectually and emotionally.

I have not heard anything from work, so I continue to job hunt and hope for the best – in the mean time I keep working on this blog and other options, hunt on Monster.com, Craigslist and other resources for possible leads and try to keep my chin up as best I can.
